Your PM archetype
The Empath
“You feel the team's pulse before anyone speaks.”
You walked into standup this morning and knew Marco hadn't slept. Nobody else noticed. You also knew the PO was furious before she opened Slack. Something about her terse reply at 7am. Half your job is reading what nobody's saying. Other PMs run meetings. You run rooms. People tell you things they don't tell their manager, not because you ask, but because something about you signals it's safe. You'd be a great therapist if therapists got to manage budgets. 33% of the PMP is People domain. Every conflict question, every stakeholder engagement question, every 'how should the PM respond emotionally' question is a freebie for you. The danger is the inverse: drowning in feelings when the right answer is in the data.
Your strengths
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Team Dynamics
- Conflict Detection
- Servant Leadership
Watch out for
Don't let empathy override data-driven decisions.
On the exam
People is 33% of the exam and your home turf. On conflict items, lead with the process step (address it directly, gather facts), then bring the empathy.
Compatible with
People-readers and bridge-builders speak your language. Together you create teams nobody wants to leave.
Challenged by
Pure logic types don't always see the team cost of their call. You see it. The friction is the work.
